Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe Bio

• Born in Detroit, with a single mother, and poor family
• Felt the military was the best way out and wanted to be the best so she picked the Marine Corps
• Served in the Marine Corps. from 1979-2003
• Based in Japan, Hawaii, North Carolina, Michigan, Illinois, Saudi Arabia, Pentagon
• Became a Chief Warrant Officer 4
• While in the service, she worked in Congress and learned proper government protocol helping her to be mayor
• Moved to Kendallville with her husband and won the mayoral election in 2003.
• She is the first woman to become mayor of Kendallville.
